With
over fifty-three years of continuous growth, California Steel and Tube has
advanced from its early days of warehousing to a broad capability today in
custom steel fabrication…and the Company has never stopped growing…in
size, in versatility, in overall capabilities.
Founded, in 1951, by Philip P. and James E. Brown as the Brown Steel Supply Company, the Corporation first specialized in warehousing and the slitting of steel sheets. Within three years the Company was producing electrically welded steel tubing. By 1959 it was turning out light roll formed sections and the following year was marketing heavy construction items, and other sophisticated shapes, and was performing, successfully and on-time, work for the United States government as a subcontractor and prime contractor on defense projects. In 1986 California Steel and Tube was purchased as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ferro Union, Inc.
Ferro Union, Inc. was a part of the Macsteel International Group with steel service centers, manufacturing facilities and trading offices throughout the world. In January of 2004, all subsidiaries of Macsteel Service Centers USA, located in the United States were reorganized and identified as Macsteel Service Centers USA, with one exception. California Steel and Tube has maintained their name due to strong customer loyalty and regional identification.
California Steel and Tube is a “Buy American” company who maintains a large inventory of prime steel coils to support its production of roll formed shapes, welded tubing stamping and fabricated products. Steel of the highest quality is purchased to exacting specifications, in a variety of gauges, widths and finishes. A substantial inventory of tooling is readily available to customers – and costs can be greatly reduced by using combinations of this tooling; although tooling provided for a specific customer’s product will be used only for that customer. The Company has facilities, to maintain both customer and in-house tooling.
Located near Los Angeles, California Steel and Tube maintains its own truck delivery fleet, is close to all major freeways, and is also served by a rail spur.
